Winner of the George Gorun Memorial Award

Diana Schell, daughter of Ken and Rita "Raible" Schell of 3805 Liberty Way in Liberty Borough was the recipient of the George Gorun Memorial Award 0f $2600.00.

Diana was selected by the principal and math. dept. representatives based on her excellence in mathematics and in her participation as a basketball player.

Diana has been playing basketball since she was in 2nd grade and was a member of this year's squad that got as far as the WPIAL playoffs.

She received the Award (to her great surprise" ) presented by Dr. Sardon, the principal, at graduation practice.

She will be attending Thiel College for at least two years and then plans to tranfer to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine to complete her degree in Pharmacy.

Both of her parents are graduates of South Allegheny and her dad had Mr. Gorun as a math teacher when he was in middle school


Contributions Invited for the George Gorun Memorial Award

This award in memory of Mr. George Gorun's 35 years as a mathematics teacher at Glassport High School and his years as a basketball coach has been established to pay tribute to him as an educator who touched the lives of countless GHS graduates.

The George Gorun Memorial Award will be presented at this year's graduation ceremony to a senior who has demonstrated excellence as a mathematics student with preference being given to a student (male or female ) who, in addition to excellence in mathematics has also excelled as a basketball player. The recipient of the award will be selected by the mathematics department in consultation with the high school principal.

Checks should be made out to South Allegheny High School. Please include your name and address so that your gift can be acknowledged. (Women alumni: please include your maiden name, too).
